We are thrilled to begin to announce the winners of our Creative Book Awards 2019!

We had so many really amazing and inspiring entries we decided to include a few runner-ups, as we just could not limit ourselves to the top three in each age division. Thanks to everyone that entered!

Our judge this year is Jamie Allison, District Elementary Teacher Librarian for the Santa Barbara Unified School District. Thank you, Jamie!

Below is the first winner we are announcing, the runner-up in our category for 13-18-year-olds. More reviews and awards will follow over the next few days.

Sue DiCicco – Founder, Armed with the Arts Inc.

Runner Up for ages 13-18

This is one of the most educational books on drawing I have ever read. I was so happy to see Jamie included it her list of winners.

Disney artist Denise Shimabukuro packs a lifetime of study and knowledge into every page of this hefty volume. As a former Disney artist myself I found it very helpful. It has given me a fresh view of my own work, and a greater appreciation of all the aspects of drawing. Students with an interest in animation, children’s book illustration, movie making, or comics will find this book indispensable and instructive. This book is a must-have for any aspiring artist, or even the seasoned professional, in any medium. The foundations of drawing are all here, plus reminders of the value and power of observation.

Even readers with no interest in learning to draw will learn to see the world in a more engaging way. This book will be part of my personal collection for years to come.

Thanks, Denise, for an educational and inspiring book.
